Iconic-Verbal Strategies to Develop Reading Comprehension in Children of 4 Years Old

Resumen

The study area is a context where students present severe difficulties in reading comprehension; the objective is to demonstrate the level of contribution of the iconic-verbal reading strategy in the development of reading comprehension levels in communication. We used a quantitative and applied method; 24 children of four years old participated, established through non-probabilistic sampling; pre-experimental design of a single group, whose period of experimentation or fieldwork lasted three months. In measuring reading comprehension level, the learning assessment scale was applied, and the results before treatment show that 100% of children are at the “beginning” level of reading comprehension. After the application of the iconic-verbal reading strategy, progress was made towards the “in progress” (45.8%) and “expected achievement” (54.2%) levels of reading comprehension in the area of communication. In conclusion, the application of the iconic-verbal reading strategy contributes significantly to the development of reading comprehension.
